Video Quality Rating System Guide

**** (Excellent) – The fight footage is a “first generation” VHS or DVD copy. Original recording speed is in the (SP) “Standard Play” mode or possibly better i.e. the (HQ) High Quality mode though (HQ) recordings are rare. There are virtually no defects, the picture is “clean/sharp”, the audio is “clear/crisp”. Many fights currently being recorded using a High Definition DVR (Digital Video Recorder) will also fall under this rating.

Overall quality is Excellent. -RECOMMENDED-

*** (Very Good) – The fight footage is a probable “first generation” copy but may be a “second generation” copy. Original recording speed is in (SP) “Standard Play” mode or possibly (LP) “Long Play” mode. There may be occasional minor brief defects in “picture” or “audio” i.e. TV reception may be “slightly” hazy but still very viewable.

Overall quality is Very Good. -RECOMMENDED-

** (Good) – The fight footage is probably a “second generation” copy or a “first generation” copy that has a good picture BUT in some rare cases may also have a permanent “tracking line” running through either the top/middle or bottom of picture. Original recording speed is in either the (SP) “Standard Play” mode, (LP) “Long Play” mode or possibly (EP/SLP) “Extra Play / Super Long Play” mode.

Any of the following defects may briefly occur during playback, i.e. “VCR language” briefly appearing, “program channel” momentarily changed, brief “loss of picture” or “sound”, quality of original source (VHS tape or 8mm/16mm film transfer etc.) used to record program may have been “degraded” due to age etc. or of low quality, “tracking lines” may appear at times, TV reception may be “hazy” but viewable,“drop-outs / white outs” in picture may occur. Picture may be ”slightly” blurry but viewable.

Editors Note: MOST FIGHTS AVAILABLE FROM THE 1920's thru TO THE 1960's WILL HAVE A RATING OF ”GOOD” SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE INFERIOR AUDIO/VIDEO TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE DURING THOSE ERAS AND ALSO THE ARCHAIC ORIGINAL TRANSFER METHODS FROM FILM REELS TO VIDEO BUT THEY ARE ALL STILL WORTH COLLECTING AND VIEWING!!!

Overall quality is Good. -RECOMMENDED-

* (Poor) – The fight footage is a “second/multiple generation” copy, picture is definitely blurry. Original recording speed is most likely in either the (LP) or (EP/SLP) modes. The quality is basically much worse than **(Good) and any fights with a, *(Poor) quality rating are not recommended unless you are a “die-hard” fan and the footage is “very rare” or can only be found in this condition. Unfortunately there are fights which are only available in poor condition.

Overall quality is Poor. -Take You're Chances!!-
