Vincent desperately wants in to the family (both literally and figuratively), and at the urging of his sister Connie (Talia Shire), Michael welcomes the young man and allows him to adopt the Corleone name. However, a flirtatious attraction between Vincent and his cousin, Michael's naïve daughter Mary (Sofia Coppola) develops, and threatens to develop into a full-fledged romance and undo the godfather's future plans. A single mother and her difficult son find family life isn't necessarily all it's cracked up to be in this drama adapted from writer and professor Tobias Wolff's 1989 memoir of the same name. Nomadic, flaky Caroline (Ellen Barkin) just wants to settle down in one place, find a decent guy, and provide a better home for her handful of a son, Toby (Leonardo DiCaprio). When she moves to Seattle and meets the respectful, respectable Dwight Hansen (Robert DeNiro), she thinks she's got it made. Toby, however, feels differently after spending a few months with Dwight and his children and away from Caroline. The boy's stepfather-to-be seems to want to mold Toby into a better person, but to do so he emotionally, verbally, and physically abuses the kid. The marriage proceeds, and soon Caroline, too, recognizes Dwight's need to dominate everyone around him. She sticks with it, though, convinced it's the best thing for her son, and several years of dysfunction ensue. During this time, Tobias befriends another misfit, the possibly homosexual young Jonah (Arthur Gayle), while continuing to chafe under the yoke of his repressive stepfather. This Boy's Life provided the first lead role for future superstar DiCaprio. (AMG)

The 12 boxers hang upside down and do inverted sit-ups. David Pareja won the challenge and became the first #1 ranked boxer for the week. As the last ranked boxer, R.C. chose to fight David Pareja. David Pareja won the four round fight via unanimous decision. R.C. Reyes was the first boxer eliminated. 11 hopefuls remain... This week's challenge is getting a punching bag up an inclinement. Bachmann wins the challenge and with it, $10,000 and the week's number one ranking. Lawrence "Lights Out" Alonzo is ranked last for the week and decides to fight Bachmann. Bachmann will be fighting for $25,000 as Alonzo fights for survival. Gilbert and Rene struggle to make the weight class. De La Hoya, Brooks and Duva rank the top three boxers. Bachmann and Pareja are given the responsibility of ranking the other five. They rank Scianna last and he chooses to fight Rene. Rene Armijo wins the fight in a 3 round TKO and $25,000. Scianna hangs up his gloves and heads home. 9 boxers remain... (TV.COM)

Darcy narrates the story from his diary notes. Boxing saved him from a wasted youth, and Darcy promotes the idea to the town fathers as a gang-prevention strategy. The town's economy is in shambles and the young men have nothing to look forward to. Darcy gives them a reason to live and a dream, converting their violent energy to sport and fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship. First he wins them over by playing soccer with them, then he lures them into his lessons on boxing. He drives them hard to prepare them for their first match, against boxers from a rival local team.
